London UX Bookclub: Design is a Job

Mike Monteiro’s thoughts on defining ourselves as designers and ensuring that we’re valued by the people with whom we work.

From London UX Bookclub’s event for his new title Design is a Job.

I think that [any job title] that doesn’t have the word design in it is a shame word.

What kind of designs aren’t experienced by users of some sort?

[I think that] about 50% of the energy in our industry goes into defining ourselves rather than the projects we’re working on.

People need to know the value of your time. When people don’t know the value of your time they underrate it.

Your job is a designer is to put the right, best, solution in front of people and to sell it. As far as I know no one has ever shot a designer.
